ABOUT BRITT
Britt Leigh George was born to parents Bert and Cyndie, and sister Ashley in December 1986. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and was a life-long learner - graduating from the Culinary Institute of America and attending Portland State University studying biological and behavioral science. She spread love and friendship everywhere she went and worked and volunteered tirelessly throughout her life. She was a member of and passionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.
Like so many, Britt lived with mental illness. She died by suicide at the age of 28 in December of 2014. Devastated but determined to carry on her legacy, her family created the Britt George Foundation to ensure her selfless spirit and dedication to service would live on by helping those in greatest need.
MISSION & HISTORY
The Britt George Foundation was established in 2015 to honor Britt's legacy by enhancing the well-being of the most vulnerable individuals in our community. The Foundation focuses on suicide prevention and mental health and supports those in times of hardship including critical illness and loss. Every contribution directly impacts those in need, ensuring that Britt's compassionate spirit continues to make a difference in the world.
To date, the Britt George Foundation has dedicated nearly $250,000 to local non-profit organizations and individuals facing crisis including families impacted by local wildfires, loss, individuals facing medical challenges, and more.
Our mission is to provide timely, safety net support for those in greatest need - stepping in with financial assistance and resources when individuals need it most so they can focus on healing.
Since inception, the George family has covered all operating costs of the Foundation so that donors can rest assured, every single dollar they donate will go to a worthy cause.
